Artie's Blog Ep. 1: Fodder
Alright, I've been meaning to blog with this account since I finished the first survey; haven't gotten around to it, however. Today, It is probably mandatory, and unless I would like to be torn limb from limb by irate guinea pigs, I must write one. I believe that I am required to write down ideas for games which could be created with the Greenfoot program, some of which will be ideas I thought sucked and scrapped them in favor for my current project. Some of the other developers in the classroom have been to arms and I have taken into belief that they are now a threat to my goal of creating "the best game EVAR"! All games go through development process, and I should know; being a gamer myself. Below are some of the ideas I had for my project but scrapped for some reason or another.
Titles are in BOLD, descriptions in Normal, and notes will be written in italic.
The New Black-Some sort of puzzle game which involved connecting three or more colors together by jumping on them with a character. Considered it a bit too innovative, and as such, difficult, and was scrapped as a result.
GreenDooM- A doom clone which was going to be programmed in greenfoot, but was ditched after seeing the capabilities of the SDK were lesser than what I had hoped it to be.
BreakdancerX1337-Now this one is interesting, it was supposed to be a game which involved a character dancing to a track and following instructions that were given on-screen. Somehow, I don't believe I can use music in the games, and was discouraged to develop on it. I was later told that it was possible, but by that time, I had given up on that idea.
Superman sucks-Partly inspired by the Spider-Man game on the old Atari system, this game was to involve a superhero kicking some criminal and was to involve a platformer element in it. I didn't believe it was as good as my Ninja Monkey/Pen Collection game, so it was ditched as well.
The Legend of Sux0r-Let's just say it involved an apple, three muskateers, and a lot of sliding around. I say that because I don't remember much from it other than the title and concept.
Hooky-A fun game that was inspired by the Flash series of the same concept. It had to do with a student having to avoid teachers and leaving the classroom so he could go play some games. It had a very good message imo, but didn't think it would fly with the teachers. Yep.
Disco Internal-A doctor gets transported into the patients body and fights the disease that ails him so, using an advanced microscopic fighter vessel. It was going to be a top-down shooter, much like Galaga and RaidenX, and to use the latest in bloom lighting and powered by the source engine. Never got the engine for the Source SDK, and was scrapped as a result. Then I got the idea to recreate it in greenfoot, but the software limited my game so severely, I decided not to develop it anymore. Disco music would be played, and would indicate how much time you have left to finish the level, bacteria would respawn if not destroyed completely, and some other key features were included as well.
Green Theft Auto-GTA-style game in which the protagonist must plant trees and stuff, steal tractors, and maim innocent lumberjacks. Yeah, that wouldn't work.
So as you see, a lot of ideas tried, but failed to meet the cut. Oh well, until the next post, nobody try anything funny.
