What is your current thinking on the importance of enhancing creativity and developing innovative abilities in your students?

I think this is something that we should pursue. However, I think this is a little like teaching our students technology skills, it must be integrated, and be transparent. We can no longer teach "technology" classes. So anything to enhance creativity and innovative thinking must be done transparently and in the content and context of classes.

What is your current thinking on the roles of:

  • developing declarative with procedural knowledge OR
  • situated cognition: solving problems through legitimate peripheral participation OR
  • utilizing the Learning Cycle (Plan, Do, Pilot, Revise & Present)

in helping your students become thinkers who can Reflect-in-Action?

I think I already try to emulate the Learning Cycle. I have tried to have them go through a similar process. I know this is probably something I need to work on more.

What is your current thinking on whether the epistemic frame of education adequately helps students prepare for the 21st century workplace?

I think the authors point, and I guess I would tend to agree with him, is that our current epistemic frame does not prepare students for the 21st century workplace. I think this is because our current epistemic frame does not encourage students to be innovative.
